About Town and Country Montessori School Town and Country Montessori School was originally founded in the early 1980’s in Minnesota by Montessori trained educator Claudia Vestal. A group of parents who shared Claudia’s vision of a Montessori based learning environment raised the monies to purchase the basic Montessori materials. When the children of these families moved on to the upper grades and Claudia was relocating to Connecticut with her family, these parents generously donated the materials to her. The materials were sent along to begin a school here in Connecticut that would continue to embrace the guiding principles of the Montessori philosophy. When Claudia’s family moved again, she gifted the materials to those of us here at the time provided we would keep this non-profit school thriving. Many of these original materials are still being used in today’s classroom. The school has been in three different locations: first in the Redding Center, second in Ridgefield at Branchville Elementary School and finally here at our present location in Wilton since 1993. Today, Town and Country Montessori continues to follow in the tradition of Montessori education for children three to six years old. We are a non-profit institution with a parent-run board of directors working in concert with school staff to create a very special community which nurtures each child as an individual learner with unique gifts. We invite you to get to know us better.
Our Teachers Our low teacher/student ratio of 1:10 supports each child's individualized program of lessons. All of our Directresses are American Montessori Society trained with the insight to meet the needs of each child's unique learning style. The school supports staff members in their continued learning by encouraging attendance of Montessori conferences and workshops throughout the year. Our Parents Our community of families draws from Wilton, and other surrounding towns including: Redding, Ridgefield, Weston, Westport, Norwalk, Darien, and Rowayton. The common vision of a Montessori education for their children and the belief of the interdependence of student, school, and home draw them to Town and Country Montessori. Parents will remark on the strong bonds of friendships formed with one another during their time at this small, intimate school. Parent hosted monthly gatherings provide time for parents to connect and share experiences with one another. Parents are further supported through parent education evenings sponsored by Town and Country Montessori. We welcome our parents to become involved with the school both inside the classroom and among the school community through accepting one of the many volunteer opportunities available each year. |
